What Mama Wants

I was doing a little wishful thinking this weekend. Since we don't know whether we're having a son or a daughter, we haven't gotten a lot of "baby frills" (ourselves). No cute outfits, no froufrou room decorations...it's all been pretty straightforward baby necessities.

But now that we'll have this baby in 50 days or less for sure (that would be going well past my due date), I started thinking. Do I want maternity pictures? Newborn pictures? Once I know whether we're Team Blue or Team Pink, what will I buy?! Oh, the possibilities.....

I'm still undecided about maternity pictures. It would be nice to have them, I guess, but probably more of an indulgence than we can afford. I really think I am going to spend the money on newborn pictures, though. The more I think about NOT doing them, the more I think I would regret it. Sure, we'll probably take obscene amounts of pictures on our own because this is our first baby, but I want the professional cute ones. With the props. The black-and-whites. The ones that are frame-worthy. People have told me, "Oh, there's editing software online and you can do it yourself for much cheaper!" Probably true, but I don't plan on going to all that effort when I have a weeks-old baby. Priorities, people, priorities. I will pay more money to have less stress and more sleep.

I also have a secret desire that's been growing since before I was pregnant. I REALLY want one of those mommy necklaces. You know, the ones that have you and your husband's name on the first charm, and your child(ren)'s names on smaller charms (or some variation of that)? Except, we can't get one right now for obvious reasons--would we put Lily or Isaac on the charm?

But I still want one...which is wierd, because prior to wanting kids, I really didn't understand their appeal.

Mr. ABC123 has three prime gift-giving opportunities to make this happen. First, the push present. We haven't discussed those seriously (no, I have NOT sent him a list of gift ideas or given him a price range to shoot for like some women do), but he is the type of guy that would get me a small momento for, you know, birthing a human being. Second, our anniversary in November. Perfect gift idea. Finally, there's Christmas. (Are you paying attention, dear? I just gave you a gift idea on a silver platter. You're welcome).

Well, there it is. My now not-so-secret wishlist of totally materialistic mommy desires.
