Need Some Mommy Advice

Okay, moms....

What do I REALLY need to plan on taking to the hospital, and what do I need to buy for myself for after the baby arrives? I'm talking nursing wear, personal hygiene items, everything. I need your input.

  1. Take snacks!! Chargers for cell phone and laptop too.

And your own towels...the hospitals are never soft or big enough.

  2. my must-haves will probably differ because i'm a csection momma, but i guess it's always good to know, just in case.

pj dresses or yoga pants or something COMFY. i lived in nursing tanks and pj pants for like the first 3 months lol. i was a disposable nursing pad girl, but i've heard the cloth ones are easier. invest in a decent nursing bra if you plan on nursing for an extended period of time. i held out for several months and regret it (lumpy boobs!). some kind of soothing cream -- lansinoh works fine.

for the hospital we took EVERYTHING and used like 1% of it. take the bare minimum because you have to haul all of it back out to the car when you leave. i didn't wear any of the clothes i brought (hurt too much so i just wore the gown), we didn't put the baby in any of the clothes we brought, the hospital provided and then gave us the diapers and wipes, etc. i brought the boppy but didn't use it, i brought movies and magazines but didn't use them. but i may be in the minority. some people used and loved everything they brought! i also couldn't get around and into my bags or change my baby without help, so it was a hassle to search for and use our own stuff.

have a notepad or app on your phone or something ready for jotting down diapers and feedings. the days blur together and even though you may think you remember the last feeding (i was always sure...but then i wasn't haha), you'll probably get confused. :) lists are your friend.

have meal plans! i would make and freeze a bunch of casseroles, pre-cooked/cut meats, etc. it would also be good to have an idea about who will be bringing you food. i didn't think about it too much, but we LIVED on the food people brought us for probably the first month.

now that i've written a novel...(THIS IS SO EXCITING!!!!)
