My ribs are still not feeling better. There is a constant pain in the same place, all the time, regardless of where the baby is flipping around. It is tender to the touch, and the pain hasn't lessened or improved in any way. The only time the pain changes is to get worse when I am feeling very stressed or trying to do a lot of things at one time.
Last night, I was feeling really uncomfortable. I was sore and I couldn't stand ANYTHING touching my ribs. I had been sitting in a reclined position for most of the day where the pressure was off my ribs, and it just wasn't helping, so I decided to search online and see if it was okay to apply some heat to the area. I start searching, and the first several articles in my search results are all talking about how if you are pregnant and having pain and tenderness in your upper right abdomen (under your ribs...where apparently my liver and gallbladder currently reside), you should let your doctor know right away because it can be an indication of hypertension and preeclampsia, which can result in a whole mess of things for you and your baby, ranging from low birth weight, pre-term birth, and maternal and fetal death.
Well, crap.
It's 10:00 on a Saturday night--I can't get ahold of my doctor! When you call the office after hours, the message says, "If you feel this is an emergency, please hang up and call 911." That's not helpful in the least. I'm home alone, because my husband is at work, so what do I do? Do I truck myself down to the ER? Do I try to find a walk-in clinic? I don't have a blood pressure cuff to take my blood pressure and see if it's in the range they talk about, but I can definitely feel that it's high, and I know that it's been high all week with EVERYTHING that has been going on in this whirlwind.
I decided to do my best to just prop my feet up, stop everything that I was doing, and try to sit still. I thought that maybe if I could get my BP to go down, the pain might ease up a bit. I decided not to go to the ER because I did notify someone in my doctor's office about the pain I was having, so it's not like they don't know.
I guess the way it stands now is that I'm going to try and check my BP today, and if the pain continues I'll be going to a walk-in clinic to see what they say. I'll also definitely be calling my doctor first thing tomorrow morning to let her know that the pain I called about a week ago is still there.
Hopefully that is not a mistake.
I would do exactly what you said. Go to a pharmacy or somewhere that has one of those blood pressure stations and check it. Try to get yourself as relaxed as possible before you do it. :)
ReplyDeleteFor sure, call your doctor tomorrow about it and they can check the protein in your urine too.
I was preeclamptic with Lily, so I was induced at 37 weeks.
Hopefully you just have some tenderness and nothing more!!! xoxoxox
