Gettin' Some on the Side...

...money, that is. ;)

I am NOT, NOT, NOT a salesy person. I have a grand total of approximately five non-relatives that I feel very comfortable talking to. Plus, I don't have a lot of money, so I feel like garbage hitting up other people that don't have a lot of money to buy stuff. Even when I was in school, my mom pretty much took charge of all my fundraising stuff.

However, desperate times call for desperate measures. I've been toying with the idea of becoming a consultant of some kind (a la Avon or Tupperware...but cooler). I've found two things that I think would be a possibility for me, based on my personality.

The first one is Send Out Cards. My brother is a consultant in this business. This is a supercool business that basically lets you design and send personalized cards for any occasion and sends them out whenever you designate. You can send thank you notes, Christmas cards, anything. You upload whatever pictures you want (or choose from the database), put personalized text in the card--basically, you create your own professional card. They print and mail the card for you, and they look fantastic. I've received several of them already. I like this business because EVERYBODY needs cards--and how many times have you realized that you need to send a card that really should've been mailed two days ago? That will never happen with SOC. I could sit down January 1st and design birthday cards for all of my friends and family members, designate the send date, and they will be mailed off on the date that you select. The cards are extremely professional, and you don't have to print them yourself.

The second business I'm thinking about is Scentsy. A parent at my school is a consultant, and I've been to one of the parties (and even use some of the products). It's wickless, flameless candles (you can find more info at scentsy.com). I like the parties because there's no demonstrations to do--you just show up with with the products, turn some warmers on, and have the scent bars available. It's far more low-pressure than most sales and I think that it has a wide appeal. Everybody uses candles! It still freaks me out a little bit, but I kind of need to get over myself about this and find something I can do to bring in some more money.

I had considered ThirtyOne bags because I really love the concept behind it and the products are supercute, but I think it's a bit pricey for most people I know.

I would love to get some input on this! Thoughts?
