What Has Two Thumbs and is Completely Frustrated?

I went in for my yearly exam today, and I was kind of excited about it. I went in with the assumption that I was going to let my doctor know that we are TTC, ask her some questions, and hopefully get some good information about everything...like seeing if we need any tests and whatnot. I know that until a year, the doctor doesn't really get worried, but why the crap should I wait that long if there is stuff she can check for NOW? Maybe she could give us more input on the best times to try (because in all the books I've read, every one of them has a different answer), or hook me up with some samples of prenatals. My friend's doctor gave HER samples! *whine*

Instead, I go in, and the nurse says, "Oh, we're going to put you with (Dr. X) today because (normal doctor) is running behind." Strike one. I mean, I completely understand why, and I don't have a problem with it, but I was looking forward to talking to the doctor who has seen me before...

So then, she comes in and says, "I see you're not using birth control. Are you trying for a baby?" I said yes and she said, "Oh, how long?" I told her and she was like, "Oh, that's wonderful. Congratulations!" No "Do you have any questions?" or ANYTHING. Before I could even open my mouth, she called in the nurse assistant for my exam, started it right away, and BAM! was out the door. Like, gone. THAT was informative.

DH thinks I should call the office and ask to talk to my regular doctor, but it almost seems pointless now. I feel really discouraged....I was really hoping that she would be able to tell me something that would help, or reassure me.

On another note, I think I found some part time work. DH is completely against it, but we went over the finances and there's just no choice if we want to have any wiggle room for a baby (or medical testing, whatever comes first). He already has two jobs, so it's my turn. Luckily, it's some tutoring work, and I can make $20/ hr with a 2 hr a week minimum. It would take a much bigger time commitment to make that kind of money at another job. The company is legit because a colleague already does some work for them. What's even better, DH can ALSO work for them! He can spare two hours a week, so he's sent in his information too.
